Writing A Successful Press Release

Essential ingredients for a news release include:

• the contact name;
• title (which looks like a newspaper headline);
• first paragraph (which must include the 5 W's);
• and subsequent paragraphs containing the most important information first, on down to the least important. (Sometimes the only news that makes the news is the first couple of paragraphs.)
• Be sure to create a relationship with your local newspaper and the editor of the 'community' type news section.  He/She can assist you in getting your News Release published.

A successful news release should be half a page to three pages long.  Below is a great sample to get you started on submitting your News Release to your local newspaper, radio station, etc.  Be sure to change it to fit your business model.

"Children love receiving letters from the Easter Bunny, and this year is no different! Orders are already pouring in says (your name.)

These personalized letters are printed on colorful, Easter themed stationery and will include such details as the child’s name, school, pet and will praise him or her for a specific chore or accomplishment they have made during the past year.
